The Astana Ballet Theatre’s corps de ballet will be in Nervi with the choreographies Carmen Suite and A fuego lento. Carmen Suite, created in 1967, retraces the story of Carmen, one of the most famous heroines of the 19th century, freedom-loving, fiery and passionate. The choreographic interpretation of Georges Bizet’s famous Carmen was created by Alberto Alonso to music transcribed from the opera’s themes by Rodion Ščedrin. Thanks to Alonso’s choreography, which brilliantly conveys the feelings and aspirations of the characters, Carmen Suite quickly established itself as a cornerstone of the art of dance, being taken up by the world’s best theatre stages. A fuego lento, choreography created by Ricardo Amarante and first performed at the Bunka Kaikan Theatre in Tokyo on 5 October 2016, is a personal account of the experience of falling in love. The ballet, set to music by Lalo Shifrin, Astor Piazzolla, Carlos Garadel and Sae Kosugi, explores through dance the birth of a feeling that becomes more and more overwhelming, attempting to convey the emotions through a language inspired by the rhythms and sensuality of the Argentine tango.

The Astana Ballet is one of the leading choreographic collectives in the Republic of Kazakhstan. The theatre skilfully combines classical traditions with the latest trends in modern choreography and popular dance. The unique and diverse repertoire is constantly enriched with masterpieces of world and national classics, as well as original choreographic productions. Collaboration with famous choreographers and tutors from home and abroad enables the dancers to master a variety of dance vocabularies that require virtuosity, musicality and incredible technique, so the language of the collective is understandable to audiences from any country in the world. The theatre’s repertoire includes productions by world ballet greats such as George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Jiří Kylián, Yury Grigorovich, Altynai Asylmuratova, Raimondo Rebeck, Nicolo Fonte and others. The Astana Ballet Theatre actively tours and performs at home and abroad: the dancers have performed in France, Italy, Austria, Munich, Belgium, Hungary, the USA, Japan, China, Korea and other countries.
